True. But i hope i wont have to do the install one more time.. my problem was that i couldn't reach the linkage from inside the door.. had to use a flat screwdriver thru the hgole were the handle are placed..

if you have a How to guide i will gladly read it.. =)

Project's brake system components are more or less received. Just need the special wiring harness which will come from the States

Plan is to have 951 rolling soon again, so it was time for some torque tube treatment.
We want to have new bearings in it, since most likely the current ones are original 24 years old. Removing saft & bearings is not a big deal, but we didn't want to spend too much time removing them. We loaded the tube to my car and drove to friends workshop. He have all necessary tools to accomplish this task in few minutes.

We came on a good time, since our friend was just doing the same overhaul to a 924 S tube

We also bought new bearings from our local parts store. Total cost of a rebuild tube is about 50€. We still manage to do even this task on low budjet

Did your local dealer have the complete bearing kit or did you reuse any part? If possible please give the bearing reference number and rubber part.

No, you must re-use old carriers. Just buy high quality 6006 bearings. C5 tolerance is preferable, but C4 & C3 will do just nicely.

I'm trying to do the same thing to my transaxle, and the axle itself was no problem to get out,
however I'm having problems with my bearings.

How did you get them out more exact?
Did you push them all out from one side to the other, or did you pull them out using a slide hammer of some kind?

We managed to get all four bearings stuck in one pile 1dm from the opening by the clutch side.
(clever, right? )
And now we have plans to make some kind of "piston" that will fit into the pipe and use it to pull the bearings out..

Bearings were pulled off with the same electric winch as the axle was. We pulled them out one by one. Two from front, two from rear.We had a tool made from old handbrake wire attached to the winch's hook. The whole disassemble procedure took about 10 minutes.
If you do not have a winch available you can fabricate a tool like this, which was made by a friend of mine for his 928 GTS bearings. With this type of tool you can remove the bearings and also install them back

Some minor progress, too many side projects which are slowing down son's project.

Torque Tube got some rust preventive paint on it. Next step is to have black 2K epoxy on it



We started to restore the fuel lines. Some surface rust on them. I removed the old green coating and found out that steel line under coating was in very good condition. Now we are going to paint cleaned lines with 2K matt dark green paint. After that clear heat shrinkable tube "coat" will be put on it.

I thought these tie wraps were NLA. A friend of mine needed few for his S2 and gave me a correct part number, so we ordered 20 straps for sons project as well.



Since it has a VW based part number, i asked from local VW if i can buy that as a VW part. Very helpful parts salesman looked from VW Etka and found out that part to be a "Porsche specific" and not available through VW in Europe. Only VW which still use it is a Brasilian made VW Saveiro pick up..... So in Brasil, you can buy 944 Tie Wraps directly from VW

Some side projects with a friend of mine. He bought a set of these for his 968 which we re-conditioned.








Son's project proceeds slowly Too much other things to do. Since originally non ABS car will have a Boxster ABS system we have to had ABS hubs. We already had rear ABS system and luckily managed to found ABS hubs for front as well. As usual parts were not so nice, but son managed to finish them nicely.






We also got our brake setup decided. It will be quite simple, nothing fancy. Rear will be 968 units, which was given free by a friend of us. front calipers are just recently overhauled for another friend of mine. He just bought a set of 993 turbo units to his 968. He gave his old setup, 951S fronts, to my son for free, we helped him to install M030 suspension and as a trade son got the calipers.

Front calipers can be seen here with some other calipers. I rebuilt them last fall

Winter is finally over. Kids are off the hockey rink, so it is time for some street fun




Since owenr of this project car is a young man, it was easy for him to choose Atiwe wheel. Momo was traded to a Garret tune turbocharger (from Golf GTI). Charger should be good for 250+HP. Son gave it to me, hmm... might be a decent charger for my E30 project. Hopefully i have more time to spend at our summer cottage in the finnish lake area during this summer. I moved E30 there, have plans to fix up car there. Car has been under the tree on my back yard last two years. Loaded the battery and it started right away. Had problems with FAG clutch slave cylinder (Almost similar what 944's have) Replaced the seals (3€) and i was ready to drive 167km's journey to our cottage.

I just received a lot of parts from States to this Beemer from a friend of mine. Finnish models didn't had much options, but now i have power windows, power locks, ABS, A/C, Sound System, oem third brake light etc, etc. Should be fun summer to repair this classic. It's good to work every now and then also with some other brands than Porsche

Had some free time last Saturday. Went with my eldest son to the track see some action. A friend of mine rented this track for a day and invited some friends to have some fun
There where cars from Finland & Sweden + one Norweigan, but Paul lives in Finland

you should have come forward and say hi to me when you were at Ahnevisto this weekend. I can see that you have taken some pictures of my 944 S2 (the red one). It was a really good weekend and we were quite impressed by the organisation. I really hope that we can comeback to this very difficult track also next year!

We started to prepare rear suspension installation. More or less all necessary parts are here




Bought "some stuff". Almost complete 951 packed in boxes....

Started also work with my Bimmer project. Car is currently at our summer cottage, so it is more or less a weekend project during this summer.

Looks quite OK after wash.



Under carpet it does not look so good.....



Son finished torque tube's surface. Lots of sanding after some bondo. It's finally painted with black 2K epoxy. Turned out nicely. Tube should look nice against freshly painted "Diamant Blau" bottom with some newly yellow passived parts, like heat shields etc



Spindles were glass blasted, and painted with 2K Epoxy paint (4-layers)

After some grey anti-rust paint

We wanted to have a factory style dark green brake & fuel lines. We couldn't find locally suitable pipe and also factory offers new lines with other coatings, so we have to made new lines with our own coating.

Raw pipes were first shaped to the correct form. Then we applied special 1K primer. After that some 2K dark green epoxy paint. We are going to add some clear heat shrinkable pvc on that, so pipes will not get any rust on them.

To avoid solid (POM) bushings squeak, son made some "grease grooves" with Dremel.



We installed more bushings. This time solid billet aluminium ones.





Started also to put into parts this 1982 Martini, which was imported from UK. As typical UK 944, body is badly rusted. Martini was bought by a friend of mine mainly because it has a black full leathersport seats which will go to his 924 Turbo, which can also seen in the picture. I am doing some minor overhaul to it. removed the wastgate because J-pipe gaskets were leaking. I snapped three studs, so i have to remove WG. btw 931 is sure a fun car to drive. It has become one of my favourite Porsche model

Got a set of rear rotors from a friend of mine. Can you see a set of cross drilled rear rotors in this picture.....




Got "new" front rotors from over night citric acid bath. After light brush with hot water they turned out quite good. Now we need to paint some parts with high temp proof grey paint.




We got a "new" oil cooler from a friend of mine. This 968 unit needs some refurb. Might be possible we use it sequential with 944 S2 unit we have.



Yesterday we went (me & three sons) to Ahvenisto race track. Manily to see friends, since our cars are still at where they have been too long; in garage
Nice day, quite hot for a change, 28C. Took few pictures of friends and my sons.

When we left home for Ahvenisto, we drove behind this nice 1957 Bel Air 4 dr ht. Brought back memories from my younger days when i used to own a '57 Bel Air.
